The Mayor of Orumba North Local Government Area, Capt. Casmire Nwafor, has urged indigenes living outside Anambra to maintain close ties with their communities and contribute to their development.
Nwafor made the call at the 2026 Cultural Day of the Association of Orumba North Town Peoples Union (AONTPU), Lagos Branch, held on Oct. 17.
He said indigenes living outside the state could contribute to community development through support for security, education and conflict resolution.
The mayor commended the association for promoting cultural awareness, unity and communal ties among Orumba North indigenes in Lagos.
He urged members to sustain the spirit of unity, noting that a strong sense of cultural identity could help drive sustainable development in their homeland.
The Obu Nanka of Nanka and Grand Patron of AONTPU, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo, commended the mayor for his development efforts in Orumba North.
Earlier, the Chairman of AONTPU, Engr. Osita Ogbaji, said the Cultural Day provided an opportunity for cultural expression, social interaction and the promotion of indigenous values among Orumba North indigenes living in Lagos.
Ogbaji reaffirmed the association’s commitment to the Akụ̀lụọ̀ Ụnọ̀ initiative, which encourages indigenes to contribute to the development of their homeland.
He said plans were underway to organise Orumba Day in Lagos, a joint celebration involving Orumba North and Orumba South.
