World Arthritis Day, observed annually on October 12, raises awareness about arthritis and other rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions affecting joints, movement and the daily lives of millions worldwide.
The observance highlights the importance of understanding these conditions, recognising their symptoms early and ensuring that affected individuals receive appropriate medical assessment, treatment and support.
Arthritis refers to conditions that cause joint inflammation, pain, stiffness or swelling, potentially limiting mobility and making everyday activities increasingly difficult without proper management.
Residents experiencing persistent joint pain, swelling or stiffness are encouraged to consult qualified healthcare professionals rather than relying on self-medication or unverified remedies that may delay appropriate treatment.
Maintaining an active lifestyle, engaging in suitable physical exercise and managing body weight can support joint health, although individual recommendations should depend on medical advice and personal circumstances.
The Anambra State Government, under Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, continues to prioritise a liveable and prosperous homeland where access to health information supports improved wellbeing.
Healthcare professionals play an important role in educating the public about arthritis, identifying warning signs and guiding patients towards suitable treatment, rehabilitation and long-term condition management.
Families and communities are encouraged to support people living with arthritis by promoting understanding, reducing discrimination and helping affected individuals access appropriate healthcare and necessary assistance.
As the world marks World Arthritis Day, residents are encouraged to take joint health seriously, seek timely medical attention and promote greater awareness of musculoskeletal conditions.
