Sen. Tony Nwoye, Member representing Anambra North Senatorial District, has urged Christian fathers to strengthen their families and the Church through responsible leadership, moral guidance and active participation in church activities.
Nwoye made the call on Oct. 17, at the maiden 2026 convention of the Catholic Men Organisation (CMO) of the Catholic Diocese of Aguleri.
The convention, themed “The Role of Christian Fathers in the Family and the Church,” began with a Holy Mass celebrated by the Catholic Bishop of Aguleri Diocese, Most Rev. Denis Chidi Isizoh.

Speaking at the convention, Nwoye said fathers had important roles to play as spiritual leaders, providers and role models in their families.
He urged them to promote prayer, regular Scripture reading and daily devotion at home, stressing that the religious upbringing of children should not be left solely to mothers or the Church.

The senator also emphasised the need for fathers to meet their families’ physical, emotional and material needs while providing a safe and supportive home environment.
He advised them to raise their children with firm but loving guidance and moral instruction, while avoiding actions that could provoke anger or resentment.

Nwoye further urged fathers to take an active interest in their children’s lives by listening to their concerns, attending school activities and building strong emotional bonds that would foster their confidence and self worth.

Describing the family as a “domestic church,” he urged fathers to demonstrate Christian values at home and extend their commitment to the Church through active participation, service and leadership in their parishes.
He also encouraged them to mentor younger generations, participate in community outreach and uphold integrity in their parishes and communities.
