The Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, has pledged continued support for immunisation and primary healthcare initiatives to sustain Nigeria’s polio free status.
Anazodo, represented by his Deputy, Hon. Ijeoma Okoli, made the pledge on Oct. 17 during a polio awareness walk organised by Rotarians across Anambra State in Nnewi to mark World Polio Day.
The walk began at St. Mary’s Anglican Cathedral, Uruagu, Nnewi, and proceeded through major streets, where participants sensitised residents on the importance of routine immunisation in protecting children against polio.

Anazodo commended Rotary International for its efforts to eradicate polio and called for sustained action towards eliminating the disease across Africa.
He said his administration would continue to partner with Rotary to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and support efforts to protect children against preventable diseases.

The event featured the unveiling of a polio awareness billboard in Nnewi North, donated by the Chief Executive Officer of Palmleaf Real Estate in collaboration with Rotary leaders.
The billboard is intended to remind parents and caregivers of the importance of routine immunisation against polio.
