In a remarkable display of unity and cultural pride, the Ihiala Progress Union (IPU) Women’s Wing, Lagos Branch, gathered on Sunday for a major fundraising ceremony aimed at raising ₦100 million for the renovation of the Ihiala Annex House in Lagos.
The event, attended by community leaders, guests, and supporters, also featured the official launch of the community’s dance troupe, known as “Di bu Ugwu”, as well as the presentation of awards of honour to distinguished Ihiala women.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the IPU Women’s Wing, Lolo Nneka Egbunonu, said the Annex House had served the community for many years and now required a much-needed facelift. She described the renovation as a collective responsibility, adding that the structure represents not just concrete and steel, but a shared legacy of the Ihiala people.

Egbunonu, who highlighted the significance of the newly launched Di bu Ugwu cultural dance, noted that it serves both as an expression of heritage and a symbolic show of respect by women to their husbands, reflecting the pride and dignity of Ihiala womanhood.
She further noted that the mothers and daughters honoured at the event were women whose brilliance and resilience continue to lift the Ihiala community beyond borders, calling for continued collective effort toward realizing the renovation project.

In his remarks, the Anambra State Liaison Officer in Lagos, Barr. Leo Chiegboka, thanked the Ihiala community in Lagos for their massive support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the November 8 gubernatorial election. He commended the women for championing the project and for promoting Ihiala’s rich cultural heritage through dance.

Also speaking, the President of the Ihiala Progress Union, Lagos Branch, Mr. Steve Casmir Mbanugo, urged all Ihiala indigenes to rally behind the initiative to ensure the successful completion of the Annex House renovation.
Adding colour and excitement to the day was the vibrant unveiling of the Di bu Ugwu cultural troupe, whose performances drew applause and reaffirmed the community’s cultural identity.
