FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has attributed the recent reduction in electricity supply across Anambra State to a significant drop in power allocation from transmission stations supplying its distribution network.

In a press statement dated October 23, 2026, the company explained that the development had affected electricity distribution to households, businesses, institutions and other consumers across the state.

According to FirstPower, the reduction began on October 19, 2026, with power allocation to the Agu-Awka, Nibo, Awada and GCM transmission stations declining considerably within a few days.

The company disclosed that its combined allocation dropped from 214.78 megawatts to 92.60 megawatts by October 22, representing an overall reduction of approximately 56.89 per cent.

It noted that the decline had constrained its ability to maintain the prescribed daily electricity supply threshold on its feeders, resulting in fewer hours of power supply for customers.

FirstPower linked the development to a wider reduction in electricity generation and supply across Nigeria, which reportedly saw national grid generation fall from about 3,840 megawatts to 476.70 megawatts within six hours on October 19.

The company added that multiple trips on the 330kV transmission network had disrupted electricity supply in different parts of the country, while the Nigerian Independent System Operator provided updates on efforts to restore normal grid operations.

However, FirstPower stated that investigations were ongoing to establish the specific reasons for the continued reduction in allocations to the transmission stations serving its network.

The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to customers and assured residents that it was engaging relevant stakeholders to identify the causes and facilitate improved electricity allocation.

It also pledged to distribute available power as efficiently and equitably as possible, while promising further updates as the situation develops.
