The Chief Medical Director(CMD) of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Awka, Dr. Maureen Umeakuewulu, has reassured residents that there is no confirmed case of Ebola in Anambra State, while urging the public to remain vigilant and observe preventive health measures.

Dr. Umeakuewulu gave the assurance while speaking with journalists in Awka, explaining that the hospital management had activated precautionary measures following reports of a confirmed Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

She disclosed that COOUTH had constituted an Ebola Preparedness Committee to strengthen awareness among healthcare workers and educate members of the public on the disease, its symptoms, early detection and preventive measures.

According to her, the committee is expected to equip hospital staff with the necessary information and preparedness strategies to prevent possible transmission and ensure an effective response should any suspected case arise.

The CMD urged residents to maintain good personal hygiene, exercise caution and develop a high index of suspicion by promptly seeking medical attention when they notice symptoms associated with the disease.

She drew attention to the threat posed by Lassa fever, calling on residents to maintain clean environments and adopt healthy sanitation practices to reduce their risk of infection.

Dr. Umeakuewulu stressed the importance of public awareness, personal responsibility and early reporting of suspected infections in protecting individuals and communities from infectious diseases.
