The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has expressed the Ministry’s readiness to partner with the Female Youth, Anambra State Njikoka Chapter (FYA), in promoting positive values, empowering young women and addressing social challenges confronting youths across the state.

Mefor gave the assurance when the founder of the organisation, Prophetess Princess Bibian Nwankwo, led its executive members on a courtesy visit to his office at the Anambra State Secretariat, Awka, on November 3..

The Commissioner described its objectives as consistent with the Ministry’s expanded mandate of Value Reformation, noting that government needs responsible citizens who can protect and sustain development achievements across Anambra.

According to him, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s administration has made significant investments in infrastructure, including the new Government House Lighthouse, Solution Fun City, the Anambra Beltway, five newly constructed general hospitals and four reconstructed hospitals, alongside free education and free maternal healthcare services.

Dr Law also highlighted the administration’s long-term development vision, particularly the proposed aerotropolis, explaining that it was conceived as an aviation-driven city rather than merely another airport. He stressed that Anambra needed to plan ahead for population growth and future economic expansion.

Mefor, however, observed that infrastructure development would amount to little without corresponding investment in human character, warning that negative behaviours could undermine development. He identified cultism, drug abuse and internet fraud among the social challenges requiring deliberate behavioural change.

He disclosed that the Ministry had established a platform known as the Coalition of the Willing, comprising the Ministry’s technical personnel, individual experts and non-governmental organisations involved in attitude change and behavioural modification. He promised to include the Female Youth group in the coalition and share the Ministry’s programme document with them for review and suggestions.

The Commissioner also announced plans for a radio sensitization network under the Ministry’s Value Reformation programme, known as MALUMEBE, to be anchored by the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, with other participating radio stations expected to connect to expand its reach across the state.

Earlier, Prophetess Bibian said the Female Youth organisation was established in 2014 and had, over the years, undertaken educational interventions, empowerment activities and youth sensitisation through the voluntary contributions of its professional members.

She explained that the group was seeking government collaboration to expand its outreach to young women in communities across Anambra’s 21 local government areas.

She identified drug abuse, alcohol misuse, negative social influences, school dropout and economic dependence as challenges affecting some young women, stressing the need to encourage entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

According to Princess Bibian, young women should be encouraged to start businesses with whatever little resources they have and gradually build sustainable livelihoods. She expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for receiving the delegation and welcomed the proposed partnership, noting that the organisation had also appointed him as its patron.
