The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have strengthened their partnership to facilitate National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment for residents of Anambra State, with the aim of expanding access to government-supported healthcare programmes.
The Executive Secretary of ASHIA, Dr. Augustine Ezeka, made this move on October 21, during an interactive visit to the NIMC office in Anambra State.
The meeting featured discussions with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Director, Mr. Mark Smart Udo, and the NIMC Director in Anambra State, Mrs. Maureen Abazu.
The engagement focused on enhancing inter-agency cooperation to address identification challenges that may prevent eligible residents from enrolling in health insurance schemes.
The proposed collaboration is expected to facilitate the registration of qualified residents under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) and the Global Fund programme.
Through the partnership, ASHIA and NIMC aim to improve the enrolment process by strengthening coordination and making it easier for eligible residents to meet the identification requirements for accessing healthcare benefits.
The initiative underscores the importance of collaboration among government agencies in removing barriers to healthcare access and ensuring that vulnerable and eligible residents are not excluded from essential medical services because of documentation challenges.
The partnership is also expected to contribute to broader efforts to expand health insurance coverage in Anambra State by helping more residents access healthcare programmes designed to improve their well-being.
The engagement reflects ASHIA’s commitment to working with relevant institutions to improve enrolment processes and extend the benefits of health insurance to more eligible residents across the state.
