The Chief Medical Director(CMD) of Comprehensive Medical Centre (CMC), Awkuzu, Dr Adaobi Odina, has urged members of the public to prioritise regular medical check ups and healthy living to detect diseases early, prevent complications and improve their overall well being.
Dr Odina made the call during an interactive session with information officers in her office on Oct. 21.
Expressing concern over health conditions such as kidney disease, the CMD emphasised the importance of adopting healthy habits, including proper nutrition, regular physical activity and routine medical examinations, to reduce health risks and identify potential problems before they become severe.

She explained that regular health screenings could help detect certain conditions at an early stage, allowing patients to receive timely treatment and improve their chances of better health outcomes.
On breast cancer, Dr Odina stressed that early detection and prompt medical attention were essential for effective treatment, encouraging women to be familiar with their breasts and seek medical evaluation if they notice unusual changes, such as lumps, redness or other abnormalities.
The CMD cautioned against ignoring warning signs or delaying hospital visits, noting that professional medical assessment was important for determining the cause of symptoms and ensuring appropriate care.
She encouraged women and the general public to take responsibility for their health by embracing preventive healthcare, seeking qualified medical advice and attending recommended screenings.
Dr Odina reiterated that prioritising routine medical check ups and maintaining a healthy lifestyle could help reduce the risk of preventable complications and promote a healthier population.
