‎The Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Oluchukwu John Ilogbenu (Olutek), has concluded an assessment tour of health facilities across the local government area to evaluate their conditions, identify challenges and determine areas requiring urgent intervention. The assessment tour, which ended on October 21, covered healthcare facilities in Nnobi, Awka-Etiti, Nnokwa and Alor communities.

‎The facilities inspected included Model Primary Health Care Centre, Umuagu, Ngo Nnobi; Primary Health Centre, Awuda Nnobi; Model Primary Health Centre, Ebenesi, Nnobi; Awka-Etiti I Primary Health Centre; Awka-Etiti II Primary Health Centre, Umunocha; Primary Health Care Centre, Nnokwa; Basic Health Centre, Umuoshi, Alor; and Alor Primary Health Centre, Ward 1.
‎

‎At Alor Ward 1 Primary Health Centre, the mayor and his entourage received a warm welcome from health workers led by the Officer-in-Charge, Mrs. Nkiru Nwoye. The staff, alongside the Head of Department, Josephine Ada Alorokwu (Ocheze), and other personnel, expressed their excitement during the visit.
‎
‎Mrs. Nwoye, HOD Josephine Ada Alorokwu and Hon. Clinton Ngige subsequently guided the Mayor through the facility, beginning with the premises and extending to the Out-Patient Department (OPD) and other service units.
‎

‎During the inspection, Nurse Nkiru introduced the mayor to various departments, including the Records Department, Matron’s Office, Private Ward, Youth Initiative Office and Pharmacy Department. The mayor commended the cleanliness and organisation of the facility, as well as the commitment of the healthcare workers.
‎
‎However, the officer-in-charge highlighted two major challenges requiring attention: the need for a qualified laboratory scientist to operate the facility’s laboratory and the need to address issues concerning the staff quarters.
‎
‎Speaking during the visit, Mayor Ilogbenu explained that the assessment exercise had provided a clearer understanding of the progress recorded across health facilities in the area, while offering a practical basis for identifying priority needs and areas requiring improvement.
‎
‎He commended healthcare workers across the local government for their dedication and invaluable contributions to community health, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to address identified challenges.
‎
‎The mayor further reaffirmed his determination to complement the healthcare development efforts of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, through practical and people-oriented initiatives. He stressed that, under the Idemili South Rising vision, his administration would continue to pursue improvements that make quality healthcare more accessible to residents across the local government area.
