The Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, has restated his administration’s commitment to advancing the welfare, education, and protection of children within the council area.
He made the declaration during the 2026 Children’s Day celebration held at the Nnewi North Local Government Secretariat. Addressing pupils, teachers, and parents from over 60 public and private schools, Hon. Anazodo described children as “the most valuable asset of any society” and pledged continued prioritization of policies that safeguard their future.

Speaking on the event’s theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” the Mayor urged parents and guardians to translate the message into practical action within their homes.
“The future is not tomorrow; the future is now. If we desire an inclusive Nnewi North where every child thrives, it must begin at home. Every child, regardless of gender, disability, or background, deserves love, education, protection, and a voice,” he said.

Hon. Anazodo highlighted ongoing council interventions aimed at improving child welfare. These include the provision of free basic healthcare for children under five at primary health centres, the renovation of classroom blocks across the 10 wards of Nnewi North, the distribution of learning materials to indigent pupils, and the strengthening of the child protection desk to address abuse and street hawking.

The Mayor commended teachers for their dedication and encouraged them to remain positive role models for their pupils. He reassured children of sustained support from the council, stating, “Nnewi North will remain a safe and nurturing environment where you can dream, learn, and attain your full potential.”

The celebration featured a march past, cultural dances, drama presentations, and quiz competitions. Awards were presented to outstanding schools, with Nnewi High School emerging first.
