‎The Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Barr. Vin Ifeanyi Ezeaka, has on Oct 7, assured stakeholders of the government’s commitment to resolving the leadership dispute in the Ugwuagba Obosi Community Landlords Association in the interest of peace and stability.
‎
‎Speaking at the Old Government House, Awka, Ezeaka said the ministry had not received any official notification cancelling the association’s September 30, election.
‎
‎He maintained that no individual, including the Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area, had the authority to unilaterally nullify the election.
‎

‎The commissioner explained that the ministry approved the election following a formal request from the President-General of Obosi Community after the expiration of the tenure of the previous executive, in accordance with the association’s constitution.
‎
‎Ezeaka further disclosed that the Ministry had not received any report of electoral malpractice that could warrant the cancellation of the exercise.
‎
‎He assured that the Anambra State Government would continue to work towards a fair, peaceful and lawful resolution of the dispute, stressing the need for all parties to maintain peace.
‎
‎The commissioner’s assurance followed a peaceful protest by members of the association, who appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to intervene in the leadership crisis.
‎
‎The protesters carried various placards, including messages such as, “Government should come to our aid and give Ugwuagba their mandate,” and “The election of Ugwuagba was free and fair.”
‎The development has heightened calls for government intervention to resolve the dispute and ensure stability within the Ugwuagba Obosi Community Landlords Association.
