The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has on Oct 6, intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections with the commencement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collection and the display of the voter register for verification and claims.
The exercise is expected to enable registered voters to confirm their details, identify possible errors and raise objections where necessary ahead of the compilation of the final register for the elections.
INEC has urged eligible voters to collect their PVCs and verify their registration details as part of efforts to ensure their participation in the electoral process. The commission has also introduced printable PVC technology aimed at reducing waiting periods and making card replacement easier for eligible voters whose cards have been lost or stolen.
The voter register is being displayed nationwide to give registered voters an opportunity to scrutinise their information and bring any discrepancies or irregularities to the attention of the commission.
The exercise is expected to contribute to the accuracy and integrity of the final Register of Voters to be used for the 2027 elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, is leading the commission’s preparations for the elections, with the electoral body continuing to implement its approved timetable.
The commission’s current official platform lists more than 93 million registered voters and provides services for voter registration, voter information verification and polling-unit identification.
INEC has therefore encouraged Nigerians who are eligible to vote to confirm their registration information, collect their PVCs and remain informed about the electoral process ahead of the 2027 elections.
The commission said the ongoing activities are part of measures to ensure that eligible Nigerians are properly captured and prepared to exercise their constitutional right to vote in the forthcoming elections.
