By Ifeyinwa Ogwo  :

The Anambra Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji, said that the state is experiencing significant transformation across all sectors under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo. In the tourism sector, he highlighted the establishment of the Solution Fun City in Awka, which will feature entertainment and leisure facilities as well as various tourist attractions for relaxation and recreation.

The proposed attractions include a 38-foot Ferris wheel, a water park, a family fun centre, a cinema, and a country club. Additional tourist destinations include Agulu Lake, which houses the Golden Tulip Hotel, Ogbunike Cave, Owerre-Ezukala Cave Waterfall, and more.

The Commissioner made these remarks while receiving a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.

He also mentioned that the government has enlisted a tourism consulting firm to develop a business plan for five tourist sites in the state: Agulu Lake, Owerre-Ezukala Cave and Waterfall, Ogbunike Cave, Awka City Park, and Anam Beach. This initiative aims to make these sites more appealing to potential investors.

“Our prayer and hope are that if we can secure investors for these sites simultaneously, Anambra will become a prominent tourism destination. Furthermore, we are focusing on rural tourism and will soon identify additional heritage sites,” he said.

Mr. Bob Manual Udokwu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Entertainment, Leisure, and Tourism, welcomed the delegation and urged them to always consider the Southeast state in any activity organized by the Federal Government.

The Minister of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hon. Hannatu Musawa, represented by the Assistant Chief Tourism Officer, Mrs. Dorothy Anthony Ugwu, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for the warm reception. She explained that their visit was intended to survey tourist sites in Anambra State.

“We came for our annual field survey, which is taking place across the six geopolitical zones. Our goal is to tour tourist sites within the state, assess their conditions, observe the ongoing activities, and identify those that require development, as the Federal Government is interested in enhancing tourist sites in Nigeria.

“We are also working toward initiating community-based tourism to promote tourism in rural areas,” she added.
