COURT REINSTATES MR. NWOKOYE AS CHAIRMAN EKEOYIBO MARKET AMAWBIA
By Regina Igwebuike :
Mr. Daniel Ifesinachi Nwokoye has been reinstated as the authentic Chairman of Ekeoyibo Amawbia Market Amalgamated Traders Association (AMATA), in Awka South Local Government, Anambra State. This decision follows a consent judgment issued at Awka on January 28, 2025, under the Seal of the Court and in the Hand of the Presiding Judge.
The judgement ordered as follows: that upon adoption of the terms of settlement by the parties and their counsel, this Court hereby enter the terms of settlement as the judgement of this Court on the matter. The said terms of settlement shall be binding on the parties by the provision of Order 42 Rule 9 of NICN Rules 2017. I so hold.
Presenting the Court judgement during a meeting at Ekeoyibo Amawbia on February 5, Ozo Anayo Nweke, President General of Awka South Market Amalgamated Traders Union (ASMATU), emphasized the union’s commitment to justice, peace, unity, and progress. He reiterated that ASMATU condemns lawlessness and injustice, and that they reinstated the ASMATU chairman after following due process, as his suspension was deemed illegal and unconstitutional.
Nweke urged all parties to respect the Court judgment, which aimed at maintaining peace and tranquility in the market, warning that disobeying the judgment could lead to imprisonment, explaining that Ekeoyibo Market has been known for peace.
The Chairman of ASMATU emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, praising the governor’s efforts in building roads and infrastructure, stressing that the victory is for all Ekeoyibo traders. This development underscores the administration’s focus on promoting peace and stability in Anambra State.
Mr. Nwokoye, Chairman of AMATA, said that AMATA is a great union and no one should sow seeds of discord, urging all to be law abiding. He commended Governor Soludo for his impressive achievements across various sectors, announcing that construction will soon commence in the market, following the governor’s approval to enhance the market’s infrastructure and boost economic activities in Amawbia.
Mr. Nwokoye urged all traders to fulfill their obligations by paying their security levy promptly. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining a clean environment, warning that failure to do so may result in the market being shut down. To ensure compliance, the chairman called upon the taskforce and other relevant departments to commence enforcement of the market’s rules and regulations.
Mr. Peter Ezeh, a former Chairman of Ekeoyibo market, commended the Awka South Market Amalgamated Traders Union for their concern and support. He described Ekeoyibo Traders Association as being “more like a family,” highlighting the strong bond and unity among its members.
Ezeh appealed for guidance to ensure the continued success and well-being of the market. He also acknowledged the good work of the incumbent chairman, emphasizing the importance of seeking clarification to avoid mistakes and maintain harmony within the market.
