ANAMBRA BUDGET COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR EARLY ACTION AND STRATEGIC PLANNING

By Maureen Agbala :

Anambra State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, has called for early and strategic action in implementing government plans, emphasizing the need for focus, diligence, and proactive measures.

Speaking at her first management meeting with ministry officials at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat in Awka, Mrs. Nnake said, “This year holds great promise, and much is expected from us. Whatever we intend to achieve, we must start early, not just early, but with a clear strategy on how to proceed.”

She stressed the importance of efficiency within the ministry, stating, “We are committed to improving the operations of the ministries, an effort that has been in the pipeline for some time. This year, we must do things differently.” Key among these efforts, she noted, is the sanitization of the ministry’s database to enhance data-driven decision-making.

“Often, in our dealings with others, data and evidence-based information are required. The need for a comprehensive database, accessible to all, covering education, healthcare, and other state-related activities, has been recognized,” she explained. The initiative, she said, had been approved the previous year and was already in progress.

Highlighting the Solu Dozie Initiative, Mrs. Nnake described it as “a remarkable programme that originated from this ministry.” The initiative, formally known as the Public-Private Community Partnership (PPCP) of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, is designed to engage Ndi Anambra globally in the state’s development.

“The Anambra State Government is doing a commendable job with limited resources, but it cannot achieve everything alone. This is why the PPCP initiative requires the partnership of Presidents-General and community leaders to drive its success,” she stated.

According to Mrs. Nnake, Governor Soludo has approved the initiative, which is currently in its development phase. However, she clarified that neither the state government nor the state itself is directly funding the developers. Instead, their contributions are part of a broader effort to advance Anambra State’s development.

“Solu Dozie is reaching out to Ndi Anambra at home and in the diaspora, encouraging them to take an active role in their community’s progress and development,” she said, adding that transparency in project funding and implementation remains a critical issue.

Mrs. Nnake called on individuals and organizations to contribute to infrastructure development across the state. “What Anambra truly needs are individuals and groups willing to support road construction, rehabilitation, school building, hospital construction, or equipping healthcare facilities,” she said.

While acknowledging that not everyone has the financial capacity to undertake large-scale projects alone, she noted that “even modest contributions can make a difference.” The PPCP platform, she added, consolidates efforts from various stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the state government’s development agenda.

She confirmed that engagements with Presidents-General of town unions across the state had been positive, and further discussions were planned with local government chairmen.

“This structured approach ensures proper implementation and long-term sustainability,” she concluded.

At the meeting, various heads of the department gave their reports on the achievements so far in the ministry and the action plan for the new year.

The Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Chinyere Nwabachili, thanked everyone present and advised that the meeting should be held often to ensure that no sector is left behind.
