The immediate past Mayor of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Hon.Chimezie Obi, has urged residents to sustain peace, unity and good governance for the continued development of the area.
Obi made the call in his valedictory speech at the council secretariat.
He urged the people to prioritise the development of Ekwusigo, encourage young people, support communities, protect the environment and strengthen the bond among Ozubulu, Ihembosi, Ichi and Oraifite.
“Let us put Ekwusigo first. Let us continue to encourage our young people, support our communities, protect our environment and strengthen the bond that unites Ozubulu, Ihembosi, Ichi and Oraifite as one people under one local government,” he said.
The former mayor appreciated stakeholders, members of the Ekwusigo Solution Team, traditional rulers, political leaders, security personnel, residents and council workers for their support and contributions during his administration.
Obi said his departure from office would not diminish his commitment to the development of the area.
“I am leaving the office of mayor but I am not leaving Ekwusigo. I remain a son of this land, committed to the peace, progress and development of our people,” he said.
He said he left office with gratitude and without bitterness, adding that he was satisfied that he had given his best within the opportunities and circumstances available to him.
Obi said his administration focused on infrastructure, security, human capital development, education, healthcare, environmental sanitation, youth empowerment and road improvement.
He, however, acknowledged that the achievements recorded were the result of collective efforts involving government officials, stakeholders, community partners and individuals.
The former mayor also appealed to anyone he might have offended, knowingly or unknowingly, to forgive him, while expressing hope for continued peace, unity and progress in Ekwusigo.
