By Ngozi Okoli The Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), St. Johnbosco Christian Community, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Iba-Pope, Awada, on June 28 officially unveiled its reformed Idiotu Amaka cultural dance in a colourful ceremony marked by thanksgiving, celebration, and renewed commitment to faith and cultural heritage. The event, held at the parish arena, attracted dignitaries, including the Chairman, Mr. Emeka Nwaugo, represented by Brother Ifeanyi Ohajiaka, and the Mother of the Day, Hon. Mrs. Josephine Udorji. The ceremony featured the dedication of the group’s musical instruments and a spiritually uplifting rendition titled Altar of God by bro. Jowel Okoli, which underscored the importance of prayer, sacrifice, and personal devotion as the foundation of Christian growth.
In his address, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Benedict Uchegbu, commended the women for their initiative, describing the reformed cultural dance as an effective instrument of evangelisation that fosters unity, strengthens faith, promotes cooperation, and deepens the bond between priests and parishioners. Speaking on behalf of the Chairman, Bro. Charles Ndubisi, on Sunday visited St. Paulinus Catholic Church, Udoka Housing Estate, Awka, where he celebrated Holy Mass and charged the faithful to embrace love, unity, and stronger family values. In his homily, Fr. Ndubisi described the Holy Trinity as one of the greatest mysteries of the Christian faith. He explained that Christians believe in one God existing in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. “The mystery of the Holy Trinity cannot be fully explained by human reasoning. It is a divine reality we accept through faith. We believe in one God in three Persons, working together as one.”
He noted that the doctrine of the Trinity is rooted in Sacred Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation. He said the Son is of the same substance as the Father, while the Holy Spirit proceeds from both, reflecting the perfect communion within the Godhead. The Chancellor added that Trinity Sunday offers key lessons on love, unity, and communion, urging Christians to imitate the harmonious relationship shared by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in their families and communities. Fr. Ndubisi also expressed concern over the negative impact of technology on family life. He observed that excessive use of mobile phones and digital devices has weakened communication and bonding in many homes. “Phones are meant to serve positive purposes and not become sources of division in families. Technology should bring people together, not separate them,” he cautioned. He encouraged families to set aside regular device-free periods for interaction, stressing that such moments strengthen ties and promote healthy communication. He further advised parents to remain close to their children, listen attentively, and create an atmosphere of openness and mutual understanding. “Genuine love begins with self-acceptance and extends to others. If you do not love yourself, it will be difficult to love the person beside you. Pentecost marks the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles, transforming fearful followers into bold messengers of faith. That moment, recorded in the Book of Acts, changed the course of Christianity and gave birth to the early Church. Today, its message remains just as relevant.
In a time marked by division, violence, economic hardship, and moral uncertainty, Pentecost challenges believers to become agents of peace and hope. The symbolism of the Holy Spirit appearing as tongues of fire reflects not destruction, but purification, enlightenment, and empowerment. It is a reminder that faith should inspire positive action and compassion toward others.
Another enduring lesson of Pentecost is unity in diversity. People from different nations heard the apostles speak in their own languages, demonstrating that differences in culture, ethnicity, and background should not be barriers to understanding and coexistence. In societies increasingly polarized by politics, religion, and social tensions, the Pentecost message calls for dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect.
Church leaders also have a responsibility during this season to encourage moral leadership, honesty, and service to humanity. Pentecost is not merely a liturgical celebration; it is a call to reflect the values of love, justice, and humility in both public and private life.

The Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika, has stressed the importance of working together in unity in order to achieve the goals of the upcoming NAWOJ’s International Women’s Day celebration activity.
Comrade Ifejika emphasized this during NAWOJ March Congress held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka.
The Congress, which doubled as the last lap of preparations toward the forthcoming NAWOJ International Women’s Day (IWD) Celebration, was used to put finishing touches, and rehearsals toward the activity which is set to hold in Awka, Anambra’s Capital City on March 31, 2026.
The Chairperson urged members to actively participate and key into the programmer’s activities as it promises to be educative, enlightening, inspiring and awesome.
She explained that the NAWOJ International Women’s Day event would be used to celebrate Anambra Female Achievers to include women from different fields who have played huge roles and impacted in the society and State at large.
Comrade Ifejika during the Congress, congratulated the newly appointed female Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake and all newly female appointees of the Soludo’s administration to include; Anambra Head of Service, Barr. Ngozi Iwouno, Deputy State Chief of Protocol, Ms Ngozi Lucy Okoye, and Special Adviser Innovation and CEO, Solution Innovation District, Ms Chinwe Okoli.

Delivering this message at the NAWOJ congress, held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center, Awka, Comrade Ifejika emphasized the imperative of purposefulness, boldness, and unity among women journalists. She stressed that active participation in congresses is a fundamental duty of every NAWOJ member, and warned against engaging in sabotage or anti-association activities, citing the association’s constitution, which stipulates suspension for executive officers who miss three consecutive congresses. The Chairman encouraged members to foster professional networks, collaborate with colleagues from other states, and create online platforms to promote their work and generate income. She also urged members to pursue ongoing training and development to remain abreast of current trends. NAWOJ commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a relatively smooth election, and called on the commission to continue supporting the media through timely payment and collaboration. It was a day of glamour at the weekend as the Otu Umuokpu Anambra State ( USA), celebrated culture, unity, and womanhood among daughters of Anambra extraction.
The event also served as a platform to induct new members into the association and for the organisation to reaffirm its commitment to promoting sisterhood, charity and preservation of Igbo cultural values.
The event, which drew distinguished guests from across Nigeria and the diaspora marked another milestone for the association, renowned for uniting and empowering women of Anambra descent around the world.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Tony Ezeani, described Otu Umuokpu as a strong pillar in every community and family in Igboland.
Chief Ezeani noted that the Umuokpus are known for peace and reconciliation, commending the women for their sisterhood.
In her speech, the President of Otu Umuokpu Lagos Island Chapter, Mrs.Gina Orazu, informed that the association will be introducing skills acquisition training for the youths so as to make them self reliant.
Mrs Orazu expressed profound appreciation to members and guests for their support, highlighting the Organisation’s continued commitment to promoting the welfare, culture and leadership of Anambra women both home and abroad.
She urged the new inductees to uphold the ideals of Otu Umuokpu Anambra, which are unity, integrity and service to humanity.
In his remarks, the Anambra State Liaison Officer, Lagos, Barr Leo. Chiegboka, commended the introduction of the skills acquisition training by the association, saying that it is in harmony with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s “1 Youth 2 Skills” project.
He lauded their efforts toward the development of the State.
Contributing, a community leader and businessman, Chief Hycnith Maduagwu, called for unity and love among the women.

Rev. Fr. Evaristus Nwagbara on September 17, has called on Ndi Anambra and residents to support the moving train; the government of the day come November 8 Gubernatorial election.
Fr. Nwagbara who is the Chaplain of Laity Council Fegge Zone under the umbrella of Onitsha Laity Council made the call during the meeting of the Laity Council Fegge Zone at Queen of Peace Catholic Church Fegge, Onitsha.
He emphasized on the developmental strides of Mr Governor, the good road networks, solar light and others, noting that human being cannot be pleased and there is no leader that can please everybody, saying that the infrastructural development in the state is as a result of the judicious use of tax monies by Ndi Anambra.
Fr Nwagbara reiterated that all the governor’s plans are for the good of the state, pointing out that the taxes from the masses are for the development of the state and advised them to support the governor for continuity.
He pleaded to all present to extend the messages to their respective parishes, pointing out that Governor Soludo is our Governor. He also thanked the Mayor of the local government, noting that he never refuses to pick calls especially when the calls come from the Rev.Frs, that he listens to them, adding that his joy is that the Mayor was born and bred in Fegge who knows all the nooks and crannies of the area.
Separately speaking, the Patron who is also the Chairman Emeritus Laity Council Fegge Zone, Chief Vincent Okeke and Chief Akunwanne Ibejiaku said that they as Laity Council always decide on whatever to do.
The duo called the attention of the Mayor on the forms being shared to traders in the market by the market authorities, adding that all the traders were mandated to fill the forms and that would amount to shop closure if not filled.
They suggested that things like these supposed not to be happening at this electioneering period because people can use it against the candidate, “I am not against the payments of revenues because it is used for the development of the state but not this period.
Reacting, the Mayor said that he has stopped the collection of revenues in the area apart from stallage, he frowned on how traders could not pay N19,600 a year for the government’s owned shops in their care asking if the shop belongs to an individual, wouldn’t they pay for the shops.
He assured them that he will sort it out with the market authority because it is not approved by him.
Explaining the issue of validation, the Mayor explained that validation is to the traders advantage because some shops occupants are unaware that the shops they occupy have been sold out severally. He assured them of meeting with the governor as they demanded.
“Validation is verifying the authenticity of a particular owner of a shop and issuance of certificate to the said owner, if when certified, the owner will be more authentic.”
He reiterated that Governor Chukwuma Soludo stopped all revenues for six months when he took over as the governor, so that he can focus on what next to do. He also made it clear that sanitation payment cannot be stopped in the area because Onitsha South always comes first every month for the past one year on sanitation.
The Legal Adviser of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Barr. Stanley Okafor, corroborating the Mayor’s view on validation said that anything concerning shop is very delicate.
He pointed out that the traders should be careful on certain payments they make, noting that this particular complaint on revalidation form is strange to the Mayor and his SA on revenue because the council has stopped such payment for over one month.
He pointed out that it is the work of the saboteurs, the enemies within, who want to sabotage the progress of the local government and the state at large.
Present at the meeting were the president of the Laity Council, Fegge Zone, Hon.bSabastine Aneke, Secretary, Dr. Mrs Melvina Ezeiruaku, all chairmen and delegates from the parishes under Fegge Zone and the Mayors entourage.
