Newly elected councillors of Anambra West Local Government Area have been inaugurated and sworn in, with Hon. Kingsley Okeke elected Speaker of the Legislative Council.
The inauguration and administration of the Oath of Allegiance were conducted by the Executive Mayor of Anambra West, Hon. Tony Obierike, on Oct. 6, at the chambers of the Legislative Council, Anambra West Local Government Secretariat, Nzam.
Following their inauguration and oath taking, the councillors proceeded to elect the principal officers of the council.

Okeke was elected Speaker following a motion moved by Hon. Chinonso Obeche of Umuem Ward and seconded by Hon. Ollota Ben of Olumbanasa Ward 1, Inoma.
Hon. Sunday Emegini of Nzam Ward was elected Deputy Speaker, following a motion moved by Hon. Augustine Nnalue of Umueze Anam Ward 2 and seconded by Hon. Onyedika Udekwe of Ezi Anam Ward.

Other principal officers elected were Hon. Okonkwo Celestine of Abegbu Iyiora Ward, Majority Leader; Hon. Onyedika Udekwe of Ezi Anam Ward, Deputy Majority Leader; Hon. Udeoba Ernest of Olumbanasa Ward 2, Odeh, Chief Whip; and Hon. Augustine Nnalue of Umueze Anam Ward 2, Deputy Chief Whip.
The newly constituted legislative council is expected to deliberate on issues affecting the people of Anambra West and represent the interests of their respective wards.
The event was attended by council officials, political leaders, stakeholders and other guests.
