As the world marks World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, the Anambra State Government has highlighted its commitment to environmental sustainability through initiatives aimed at restoring degraded land, controlling erosion and strengthening climate resilience.
Under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, the state has intensified tree-planting and afforestation programmes, distributing economic tree seedlings and promoting the restoration of vegetation cover to reduce erosion, improve soil quality and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The government has also expanded land restoration efforts through the Ministry of Environment and partnerships with the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), reclaiming erosion-prone areas and protecting farmlands and watersheds from further degradation.
In addition, the Environmental Management, Protection and Administration Law 2024 has strengthened environmental governance by promoting sustainable land use, proper drainage management and environmental protection measures across the state.

Anambra continues to support forest conservation, climate adaptation and community-based environmental programmes, while collaborating with federal and international partners on restoration projects, including the planting of over 3,000 palm trees in Nibo to curb erosion.
These efforts reflect the state’s commitment to protecting natural resources, supporting agriculture and building a more sustainable future for Ndi Anambra in the face of growing environmental challenges.
