The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Stanley Anyaehie, has paid a maiden courtesy visit to the Chancellor of the University, His Majesty, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, the Gbong Gwom Jos, at his palace in the Jishe area of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The visit, which took place on October 4, provided an opportunity for Prof. Anyaehie to formally introduce himself to the chancellor following his appointment as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University in November 2025.
According to the vice-chancellor, the meeting also provided a platform for discussions on strategic collaboration and initiatives aimed at advancing the academic development, institutional stability and overall growth of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
Prof. Anyaehie expressed appreciation for the chancellor’s leadership and continued support for the University, while outlining his administration’s vision, anchored on eight strategic pillars: Academic Excellence; Research and Innovation; Global Recognition; Smart and Digital UNIZIK; Excellence in Staff and Leadership; Student-Centred University; Modern and Sustainable Infrastructure; and Strengthened Partnerships.
He said the strategic pillars were designed to further enhance UNIZIK’s position as a leading institution of higher learning in Nigeria. “Our goal is to build an environment rooted in academic excellence and administrative transparency,” the vice-chancellor stated, stressing the importance of close collaboration between the University Management and the chancellor’s office.
Prof. Anyaehie also briefed the chancellor on preparations for the forthcoming 20th and 21st Combined Convocation Ceremonies of the University and informed him that a formal invitation would be presented to him for the event.
Responding, the Gbong Gwom Jos warmly received the Vice-Chancellor and congratulated him on his appointment. The royal father reaffirmed his commitment to the progress of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and assured Prof. Anyaehie of his support, guidance and goodwill throughout his tenure.
Da Gyang Buba, who is the Chairman of the Plateau State Traditional Council of Chiefs and the third Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, expressed delight at meeting the vice-chancellor for the first time and indicated his willingness to discuss other matters of mutual interest during his planned visit to Awka for the convocation ceremonies.
The vice-chancellor was accompanied on the courtesy visit by the Director of Information and Public Relations, DIPR, Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah, and his Personal Assistant, Hon. Onyinye Umejiburu (Bishop).
