Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, has urged communities to prioritize unity and development over agitation for autonomy, following key decisions at the ANSEC meeting held on October 13, 2026.

Dr Mefor said the State Executive Council reviewed court judgments on autonomy and agreed to make adjustments, urging communities seeking autonomy to reconsider their demands in the interest of the state.

He advised communities agitating for autonomy to redirect their energy towards unity and development, stressing that continued agitation would not benefit the state and its people.

The commissioner also dismissed rumours that the Anambra State Government intended to take over mission schools, describing the claims as untrue. He clarified the government’s position on the management of mission schools.

He expressed satisfaction with the return of students to mission schools, noting that the government shares responsibility for ensuring that students receive quality education and that educational standards are maintained.

On the Onitsha Main Market modernization project, Dr Mefor said Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration was committed to restoring the market after years of neglect, with December 2026 set as the completion deadline.

He stated that work was progressing on the project and expressed optimism that the market would be fully restored, allowing traders to resume normal business activities in an improved commercial environment.

Dr Mefor also highlighted ‘Onwa Dezemba’, the December celebration organised by the Anambra State Government under Governor Soludo, describing it as an opportunity to promote tourism, showcase the state’s cultural heritage and unite communities.

He explained that the celebration had taken place the previous year and that the government was working to sustain it in 2026. He added that the Ministry of Tourism, Entertainment and Culture would provide updates on preparations.
