The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), held its meeting on October 13 2026, reviewed mission schools, Onitsha Main Market regeneration, Onwa Dezemba celebrations and autonomous communities.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, during an exclusive interview in his office at the Ministry’s headquarters in Awka on October 15.
Mefor debunked reports that the government planned to reclaim mission schools, saying the council expressed dissatisfaction with the management of some returned primary schools and stressed maintaining educational standards.
On Onitsha Main Market, he said the council reviewed the ongoing regeneration and modernization project and considered progress satisfactory, expressing confidence that it would meet its December 2026 deadline.
He explained that the project, initiated by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s administration, aims to restore the market’s image and commercial status after years of abuse.
Onwa Dezemba Program will also return for its second edition, with the government seeking to coordinate festive activities, promote Anambra’s cultural identity and strengthen its appeal as a Christmas destination.
The Commissioner said the Ministry of Tourism, Entertainment and Culture, which coordinates the programme, briefed the council on preparations, while members offered suggestions to improve the event.
On autonomous communities, Mefor said the council reviewed a recent Supreme Court judgment, agreed with the Court’s position and urged Ndi Anambra to prioritize unity over agitation.
He advised communities to channel their energies towards peace and development, adding that the council considered other policy matters at the meeting.
