The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening primary healthcare services and improving access to quality healthcare across the state.

The renewed commitment followed a courtesy visit by UNICEF Health Specialist, Dr. Ifeyinwa Anyanyo, to the Executive Secretary of ASPHCDA, Dr. Chizoba Prisca Ezeasor, on Oct. 14, at the agency’s office complex in Awka. The visit provided an opportunity to congratulate Dr. Ezeasor on her recent appointment.

Discussions centred on UNICEF’s ongoing technical and programme support to Anambra State in key areas, including health systems strengthening, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, and immunisation.

The meeting reviewed progress in implementing the Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge Fund (LCF) award grant, with emphasis on improving coordination, strengthening accountability and ensuring that planned activities are delivered effectively and within the stipulated timelines.

In her remarks, Dr. Ezeasor briefed the UNICEF delegation on progress made in implementing grant supported activities and outlined measures being taken to complete outstanding deliverables.

She reiterated the agency’s commitment to transparency, effective coordination and accountability in executing primary healthcare interventions, noting the importance of ensuring that available resources translate into improved health services for residents.

The engagement highlighted the value of sustained collaboration between UNICEF and ASPHCDA in building a stronger healthcare system and expanding access to equitable, people centred services, particularly for women, children, adolescents and other vulnerable groups.

The agency expressed its readiness to strengthen the partnership with UNICEF and other development partners to accelerate progress towards better health outcomes across Anambra State.
