Nkwo Market in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area, on October 14 witnessed an abundance of seafood, yam and potatoes available for consumption.
Heaps of new yam, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, fresh fish, crayfish, periwinkle, oysters and prawns have flooded the market as the rainy season ends.
A seafood seller, Mrs. Adaeze Okonkwo, who spoke news men said that Atani was a riverine community.

“God blessed us with plenty of seafood. Now that the flood is receding, we have plenty of fish, crayfish and ngolo (oyster) for people to buy and eat”, she said.
On yam and potatoes, Mr. Emeka Nnadi, a farmer from Ochuche, said that the new yam harvest was excellent this year.

“We have Anambra yam, white yam and three-leaf yam. Potatoes are also in abundance. People should come and buy to feed their families,” he said.
Buyers in the market expressed happiness over the availability and fair prices of the food items. Mrs. Ngozi Umeh, a mother of four who came to buy foodstuffs for her family, said that she was happy that food was available and prices were dropping compared to last month.

The abundance of food had brought relief to residents of Atani and neighbouring communities after months of high cost of living.
