Supporters of Hon. Chike Ibegbu have outlined key reasons behind their backing of his bid to represent Onitsha North II Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, citing his grassroots connection, accessibility, and policy focus.
In separate interviews across the constituency, residents and party loyalists described Ibegbu as a familiar figure with a history of engagement in community development.
“He is not new to us. He has always been present—from youth empowerment to supporting traders and artisans,” a party member said.
Supporters also highlighted his accessibility, noting that constituents are able to reach him directly when issues arise.
“You can talk to him and get a response. That matters to us,” another resident added.
On infrastructure, backers pointed to his emphasis on road rehabilitation, drainage systems, and waste management as critical to improving business and living conditions in the commercial hub.
“Our roads and gutters need urgent attention. These are areas he has consistently spoken about,” a stakeholder noted.
Youth development also featured prominently in their endorsements, with supporters referencing his plans for skills acquisition centres, improved public education, and scholarship opportunities.
“He understands that the future of Onitsha lies with the youth,” a community leader said.
Traders within the constituency further expressed support for his stance on protecting market interests, particularly efforts to address multiple taxation and reduce harassment of business owners.
“Onitsha thrives on commerce. Any leader must defend the markets,” a trader remarked.
Supporters also cited his understanding of legislative processes as an advantage, noting that effective representation requires the ability to draft bills, build alliances, and attract development projects.
Finally, they stressed his commitment to accountability, stating that regular town hall meetings and constituency briefings would ensure transparency.
“He has assured us that he will remain answerable to the people.”
Political observers say such endorsements reflect increasing grassroots mobilisation as aspirants position themselves ahead of the 2027 state assembly elections.
