Leaders of the Uli Progressive Union (UPU) in Ihiala Local Government Area have commended the Anambra State Government for its ongoing intervention to restore reliable electricity supply to the community after years of prolonged power outages.
The leaders made their commendation during a courtesy visit to the Anambra State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Casmir Agummadu, in his office at Awka on July 21, 2026.
The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to discuss the ongoing electrification project aimed at addressing the persistent power supply challenges affecting Uli and its surrounding communities.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the Council of Chiefs, Barrister Marcel Muoebonam; Chief Simon Ohajianya; and Chief Ifeanyichukwu Orjiakor expressed appreciation to the Anambra State Government and the Ministry of Power and Water Resources for intervening in the situation.
The community leaders confirmed that contractors handling the electrification project had already been sighted in the community, describing electricity as essential to human activities, economic development, and the overall wellbeing of residents.
They lamented the prolonged neglect of their appeals by previous administrations and praised the administration of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for its responsiveness and prompt intervention in addressing the power challenge.
Also speaking, the President-General of Uli Progressive Union, Engr. Chinweike Ajanobi, thanked the Commissioner for the warm reception and urged the state government to maintain close supervision of the project to ensure that it achieves its intended purpose.
Responding, Commissioner Agummadu assured the people of Uli that the Soludo administration would leave no stone unturned in its efforts to restore reliable electricity supply to the community.
He disclosed that he had made several supervisory visits to Uli to inspect critical project materials, including transformers and electrical cables, while ensuring that the contractor operates strictly within the approved scope of work for the delivery of a durable and sustainable project.
The Commissioner urged the people of Uli to protect public power infrastructure, warning that the government would not replace equipment destroyed through vandalism.
He also encouraged the community to establish a local security committee and continue embracing the Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) model.
Speaking, the Chairman of Ihiala Local Government Area, Engr. Charles Orjiakor, commended Governor Soludo’s “talk-and-do” leadership style and praised the administration’s commitment to the electrification project.
Concluding the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Water Resources, Mr. Victor Ezekwo, commended the Uli delegation for its visit and proactive engagement, assuring the community of the ministry’s continued support towards achieving long-term power stability in Uli.
