The Mayor of Anambra East Local Government Area, Hon. Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, has lauded Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for his timely and decisive intervention in the communal crisis between Umuoba Anam and Aguleri communities.
Hon. Chinweze described the Governor’s peace initiative as a bold and commendable step toward restoring lasting peace, unity and stability in the area.
He noted that Governor Soludo’s ability to convene critical stakeholders from both communities and their neighbours for a frank dialogue was instrumental to achieving the immediate ceasefire and rekindling commitment to justice and due process.
The Mayor also commended the comprehensive package announced by the State Government to address the crisis, which includes sustained security presence, ensuring justice for victims, restoration of damaged cultural heritage, and setting up a formal mechanism to resolve the historical root causes of the dispute.
According to him, the intervention underscores the Soludo administration’s resolve to safeguard lives and property and to promote dialogue and rule of law as the only acceptable means of resolving communal disagreements.
While appealing to the people of Umuoba Anam and Aguleri to uphold the ceasefire agreement and embrace peace, Hon. Chinweze emphasized that both communities share a common ancestry and destiny, and that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peaceful coexistence.
He reiterated the commitment of the Anambra East Local Government Council to collaborate with the State Government, traditional institutions, community leaders and security agencies to consolidate the gains of the peace process and prevent future occurrence.
