The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo for what he described as transformative achievements in the state’s health sector, noting that the administration’s sweeping reforms have significantly improved healthcare delivery and earned international recognition.
Udeze made the commendation while congratulating the governor on his emergence as “Nurses-Friendly Governor of the Year,” an award conferred by the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation during its 2026 conference in Abuja.
According to the Speaker, the honour reflects the administration’s verifiable milestones and sustained investment in healthcare infrastructure, workforce development, and service delivery across the state.
He highlighted key interventions of the Soludo administration to include the recruitment of over 1,000 healthcare personnel, provision of free antenatal and delivery services, and the establishment of 30 cervical cancer screening centres aimed at early detection and treatment.
Udeze further cited the installation of a medical oxygen production plant, the introduction of endoscopy units in general hospitals, and ongoing local and international training programmes for medical personnel as evidence of the government’s commitment to strengthening the health system.
The Speaker also pointed to major infrastructure upgrades, including the renovation and modernisation of general hospitals in Umueri, Ekwulobia, and Enugwu-Ukwu—spanning the three senatorial zones—as well as the construction of new general hospitals in Okpoko, Fegge, Aguleri-Otu, Anaku, and Oromaetiti.
Commending the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation for the recognition, Udeze expressed confidence that the award would further inspire Governor Soludo to sustain and deepen his administration’s healthcare reforms for the benefit of Ndi Anambra.
