Gov. Chukwuma Soludo says the monthly statewide environmental sanitation exercise will now be conducted regularly across Anambra to promote a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
Soludo stated this on July 4, in Onitsha during the 80th birthday celebration of Justice Paul Obidigwe while commenting on the level of compliance recorded during the sanitation exercise across the state.
He commended residents for their impressive participation, describing the compliance as encouraging and a demonstration of the people’s commitment to environmental cleanliness.

The governor said maintaining a clean environment was a collective responsibility with direct benefits for public health, safety and sustainable development.
According to him, the regular sanitation exercise is aimed at entrenching a culture of cleanliness, improving waste management and reducing diseases associated with poor sanitation.

He urged residents, market leaders, transport operators, business owners and community stakeholders to sustain the habit of keeping their surroundings clean beyond the monthly exercise.
Soludo also commended security agencies, environmental officials, local government authorities and volunteers for ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise across the state.
The sanitation exercise recorded high compliance in Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia and other communities, with residents cleaning roads, markets, residential areas and public spaces, while vehicular and commercial activities remained minimal.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a cleaner and greener Anambra through policies and programmes that encourage environmental responsibility among residents.
