The Anambra State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Casmir Chinenye Agummadu, has successfully resolved the longstanding land dispute between the Ogidi and Ogbunike communities, clearing the way for the immediate resumption of work on the strategic Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) substation project.
The breakthrough was recorded during a meeting held on July 3 at the Commissioner’s office in Awka, where the Presidents-General of both communities met with senior government officials to reach an amicable resolution.
The project had been stalled following a boundary dispute over the ownership of the land designated for the substation, delaying the delivery of a critical electricity infrastructure expected to strengthen power supply across Anambra State.
Speaking during the meeting, Engr. Agummadu urged both communities to sustain the peaceful resolution, emphasizing that disputes over land should never obstruct projects designed to improve public welfare and drive development.
He described the TCN substation as a strategic investment that would enhance the stability of the state’s electricity network, attract more investors, and support Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s industrialisation agenda through reliable power supply.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Lands, Prof. Offornze Dike Amaucheazi, SAN, commended the communities for embracing peace, noting that stable electricity is essential for economic growth, job creation, youth empowerment and crime reduction.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ANSERC), Engr. Nnaemeka Ewelukwa, alongside the Governor’s Special Adviser on Investment, Mr. Udechukwu Christian, stressed that peaceful communities inspire investor confidence and accelerate socio-economic development.
In their separate remarks, the President-General of Ogidi, Mr. Chijoke Ewesiobi, and his Ogbunike counterpart, Mr. Tochukwu Samuel Obiakor, welcomed the resolution of the dispute, approved the contractors’ return to the project site, pledging to maintain lasting peace in the interest of their communities and the state’s development.
The resolution is expected to fast-track the completion of the transmission substation, a key infrastructure project aimed at improving electricity supply, supporting sustainable economic development across Anambra State.
