Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has appointed Tobechukwu Nweke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as the new Attorney General of the state. The appointment, announced on March 23, 2026, marks a significant milestone, as Nweke becomes the first SAN to hold the position in 20 years.
Nweke, a native of Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area, boasts an impressive academic and professional background. He graduated from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, in 2008 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2009. He furthered his education with a master’s degree in law from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and earned certificates from the University of Oxford and Harvard University in Project Risk Management and Contract Law, respectively.
Before his appointment, Nweke served as Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters since 2022. His contributions to the development of law in Nigeria earned him the esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in September 2024, at the age of 39, making him one of the youngest SANs in Nigeria.
Many have praised Governor Soludo for this appointment, citing it as a merit-based decision, considering the sensitive nature of the office.
