From strategic thinker to reform driver, a leader shaped by discipline, vision, and results
The appointment of Chiamaka Nnake as Secretary to the Government of Anambra State (SSG),marks the rise of a calm, focused, and highly effective leader whose work has quietly shaped the state’s economic direction.
At just 39, she brings a rare blend of intellect, humility, and proven competence, qualities that have defined her journey in public service and beyond.
Those who have worked closely with her often describe her as disciplined, thoughtful, and deeply committed to excellence. She is not loud, yet her results speak clearly. She listens carefully, studies deeply, and acts decisively. This calm strength has made her a trusted figure within government circles.
During her time as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Chiamaka Nnake played a central role in reshaping how Anambra plans and manages its resources. She approached the task with clarity of purpose, ensuring that every naira spent by the state was tied to real development outcomes.
One of her standout qualities is her ability to turn complex ideas into practical solutions. Under her leadership, the ministry strengthened transparency in the budgeting process. Through stakeholder engagement forums, ordinary citizens, community leaders, and professionals were given a voice in shaping the state’s budget. This simple but powerful step brought government closer to the people.
She also championed the adoption of modern systems, introducing the Anambra State Budget Information Management System (ANBIMAS). This innovation transformed budgeting from a manual, often slow process into a digital, efficient, and transparent system. With real-time data and improved accuracy, decision-making became faster and more reliable.
Beyond systems and structures, Nnake showed a strong human side to leadership. She led the development of the state’s Social Protection Policy, an important framework designed to support the most vulnerable in society. This move reflected her belief that governance is not just about numbers, but about people.
Her leadership style is inclusive. She builds teams, carries people along, and creates space for collaboration. Through partnership roundtables and coordination meetings, she helped strengthen ties between the government, private sector, and development partners. These efforts opened doors for investment and support, placing Anambra on a stronger path to sustainable growth.
Before stepping into public service, Nnake had already built a solid professional reputation. At PricewaterhouseCoopers, she worked as a Senior Strategy Consultant, leading over 30 major projects across different sectors. Her excellence earned her the CEO Award in 2021, a reflection of her dedication and sharp thinking.
She also played a key role in shaping the long-term future of Anambra through her contribution to the Anambra Vision 2070, a bold 50-year development plan. This shows her strength as a forward thinker, someone who does not only focus on today, but also prepares for tomorrow.
Academically, she stands out. With a First-Class degree in Accounting, an MBA from Lagos Business School, and global recognitions, she represents a fine balance of knowledge and practical experience. Yet, despite her achievements, she remains grounded, a quality that continues to endear her to many.
Now, as she steps into her new role as SSG, expectations are high. But if her past is anything to go by, Chiamaka Nnake is not just prepared, she is ready to deliver.
In her quiet, steady way, she represents a new face of leadership in Anambra, one built on competence, integrity, and a clear vision for progress.
