Shanahan University, Onitsha, has held a staff retreat and orientation exercise aimed at strengthening professionalism, teamwork, academic excellence and commitment among members of its workforce. Declaring the event open on Sept. 15, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Dominic Obielosi, welcomed participants and commended his predecessor, Rev. Fr. Josephat Obi Oguejiofor, for his contributions to the development of the institution.
Obielosi described the progress recorded under his predecessor’s leadership as remarkable, noting that he had helped transform the institution from a “baby university into a giant within just two years.” The vice-chancellor urged members of staff to sustain the achievements of the university and remain committed to advancing its vision, mission and standards.

He identified punctuality, dedication to duty, accessibility to students, thorough preparation for lectures, prompt release of examination results, professionalism in dealing with students and effective teamwork as essential work ethics expected of members of staff. Obielosi also reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare and professional development of the workforce, assuring staff of his availability and support as they carry out their responsibilities.
Adimike also encouraged staff to remain committed to the vision and mission of Shanahan University while demonstrating excellence in their various areas of responsibility.

The retreat featured presentations by two guest speakers. Rev. Fr. George Adimike spoke on “Leadership and Service Anchored in Faith, Driven by Excellence,” where he highlighted the importance of servant leadership, empathy and purposeful service.
In a practical technology session, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Nwabufo introduced participants to the effective use of Microsoft PowerPoint as a tool for improving lecture delivery and enhancing student engagement.
The retreat provided an avenue for members of staff to reflect on their responsibilities, strengthen collaboration and renew their commitment to improving teaching, service delivery and professionalism at Shanahan University.
