The Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo, on July 29, unveiled the renovated Calvary Chapel at the Bishop’s Court, Awka, and urged Christians to remain steadfast in Christ to live fruitful and victorious lives.

Speaking during the dedication service held as part of a Holy Eucharist, Nwokolo thanked God for preserving lives when structural defects developed in the chapel’s ceiling before the renovation, noting that no casualties were recorded despite the potential danger.

He described the chapel as a centre of spiritual renewal that has inspired the establishment of similar chapels in bishops’ courts across several dioceses.

The bishop said the chapel also gave birth to a foundation that provides scholarships and medical assistance to the less privileged, disclosing that interventions worth about ₦20 million had been made this year. He commended the renovation committee for its prompt response and dedication to restoring the facility.

Preaching on the theme, “Abide in Christ,” from John 15:4, Nwokolo said believers who remain connected to Christ enjoy His guidance, care, cleansing and divine help.

According to him, while human efforts may fail, God grants success, prosperity and fulfilment to those who faithfully abide in Him.

He urged Christians to bear the fruits of the Spirit, including love, joy, patience and faithfulness, as evidence of a genuine relationship with Christ.

The bishop also emphasised the importance of Christian fellowship, describing it as essential for spiritual growth, mutual encouragement, worship and effective service to God.

He further urged the faithful to remain committed to Christ, encourage one another in the faith and live in readiness for the second coming of the Lord. He later offered special prayers for the congregation.

The service was attended by the wife of the Bishop on the Niger, clergy and their wives, as well as members of the Diocese on the Niger. Highlights included the unveiling and dedication of the renovated chapel, intercessory prayers and a reception.
