The Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Inland Town, Rev. Fr. Samuel Uzondu, has emphasized that priesthood is a calling from God, rather than a pursuit of personal gain or status.
During a sermon on Maundy, Reverend Father Uzondu reflected on the significance of the Last Supper, where Jesus instituted the Eucharist and Priesthood, entrusting the apostles with His mission. He highlighted the importance of humble service, citing the foot-washing ritual as an example of leadership rooted in selfless love.
Reversed Father Uzondu stressed that priests are called to shepherd souls, administer sacraments, preach the Gospel, and dedicate themselves to God and humanity.
The priest urged parishioners to pray for priests and avoid gossip or discord. He also emphasized the importance of family values, advising youth to care for aging parents and daughters-in-law to respect their mothers-in-law.
Fr. Uzondu expressed gratitude for the faithful’s sacrifices, which enable priests to serve with joy.
