‎The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Edward Ibekwe, over the alleged murder of 23-year-old Miss Vivian Chilaka, a nursing student who was killed in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area, on June 14. The arrest, according to the command, was made on Sept.  4,  following credible and actionable intelligence received by the police.
‎
‎Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly entered the premises by scaling the fence with the assistance of a ladder. The command said the suspect initially intended to sexually assault the victim. However, the suspect reportedly told investigators that a struggle broke out between him and Chilaka, during which he allegedly stabbed her with a knife, resulting in her death.
‎
‎The police further disclosed that the suspect had made claims linking him to other similar incidents within the community. The command stressed that the allegations were still being investigated and would be subjected to proper corroboration.
‎
‎Meanwhile, the police have cleared the landlord who had earlier been suspected of involvement in the murder. The command urged members of the public to disregard previous suspicions against him, following findings from the ongoing investigation. Ibekwe remains in police custody as investigators continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the murder and his alleged connection to other related criminal incidents.
‎
‎The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama,  commended residents of Alor for their cooperation, patience and support throughout the investigation. He specifically appreciated members of the community who supplied timely and useful information that assisted the police in making the breakthrough.
‎
‎The commissioner assured the public that the command would continue to pursue all credible leads and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, strengthening public confidence in the police and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.
