The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has called for greater community support and collective action to protect the dignity and well-being of people living with HIV as the world marks the International Day of Charity on Sept. 5.
The agency noted that charity extends beyond financial giving, stressing that sharing accurate HIV information, promoting testing, supporting access to treatment and challenging stigma are meaningful ways individuals and organisations can contribute to the state’s HIV response.
ANSACA urged community leaders, civil society organisations, development partners and residents to strengthen initiatives that promote HIV prevention, early diagnosis, treatment adherence and social support for people affected by the epidemic.
It stressed that creating a welcoming and discrimination free environment would encourage more people to seek HIV services, know their status and access care without fear or prejudice.
The agency also called for sustained partnerships and community-driven interventions, noting that collective responsibility remains essential to reducing new HIV infections, ending stigma and advancing efforts towards an AIDS-free generation.
