Innovation, creativity and youth leadership took centre stage in Aguata Local Government Area on June 25 as students from across the council showcased practical solutions to societal challenges at the maiden edition of the Change Makers for Culture and Education (CACE) Pitch-a-thon.

At the end of the keenly contested competition, Osnon Academy, Uga, emerged overall winner, while Community Secondary School, Aguluezechukwu, and Aguata High School, Aguata, secured second and third positions respectively.
The event, organised by the Ashoka Africa in partnership with the Chude and Ego Foundation, the Pitch-a-thon was held at the Aguata Local Government Headquarters, provided a platform for young innovators to present community-driven ideas aimed at promoting sustainable development and positive social change.

It attracted government officials, education stakeholders, school administrators and teachers committed to fostering innovation, leadership and problem-solving skills among young people.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Barr. Udorji Amedu; the Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Agha-Mba, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ifeatu Emordi; and the Chairman of Aguata Local Government Area, Dr. Chibueze Oforbuike.
Declaring the event open, Dr. Oforbuike commended the organisers for investing in the next generation of leaders through a platform that promotes critical thinking, creativity and innovation. He described the initiative as an important step towards building resilient communities and a more prosperous society.
In his keynote address, Barr. Amedu described the programme as a timely intervention in youth development urging participants to draw inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people, particularly the values of diligence, integrity and enterprise. He assured stakeholders of the State Government’s willingness to collaborate with partners in expanding similar initiatives across Anambra.
Also speaking, the Team Lead of Ashoka Africa in Southeast Nigeria, Ozi Anieto, encouraged the winning students to regard their success as the beginning of a greater responsibility to inspire others and stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government, development partners and the private sector.
The representative of the Chude and Ego Foundation and Head of School, Osnon Academy, Uga, Dr. Arinze Izuegbunam, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to nurturing a generation of confident, creative and compassionate young leaders equipped to transform their communities.
The event featured the presentation of cash prizes and cheques to the winning schools, while teachers who have distinguished themselves in promoting changemaking education across Aguata Local Government Area were honoured for their outstanding commitment.
