‎The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, has outlined a comprehensive agenda aimed at advancing digital transformation in the education sector, strengthening teacher capacity, and improving staff welfare across the state.
‎
‎Speaking during an interactive session with ministry staff at the Ministry of Education conference hall on June 24, Dr. Ogugua assured workers of an open-door leadership style and pledged to address their concerns promptly.
‎
‎The commissioner described staff members as the driving force behind the ministry’s successes, emphasizing that their welfare and professional development would remain a key priority of his administration.
‎
‎According to him, the integration of digital technology into the education system is central to the state’s vision of achieving 21st-century education. He noted that the adoption of modern technological tools would transform teaching and learning processes and better prepare students for the demands of a rapidly evolving world.
‎

‎Dr. Ogugua further stressed the importance of continuous training and retraining of teachers, despite the recent recruitment of 8,150 educators by the state government. He explained that regular capacity-building programmes are necessary to equip teachers with the skills and knowledge required to effectively educate future generations.
‎
‎The commissioner also disclosed plans to renovate existing school infrastructure across the state and expressed confidence that Anambra could eliminate the challenge of out-of-school children. He described children as the future leaders of society and underscored the need to ensure that every child has access to quality education.
‎
‎Condemning reported cases of child molestation involving some teachers, Dr. Ogugua described such acts as unacceptable and reprehensible. He assured that the government is implementing measures and safeguards to protect pupils and students within the school environment.
‎
‎He also cautioned ministry staff against lateness, absenteeism, and other forms of indiscipline, while reiterating his commitment to promoting professionalism and accountability within the education sector.
‎
‎As part of the ministry’s digital transformation agenda, Dr. Ogugua announced plans to strengthen the Science and Technology Department and provide education officers with the necessary digital tools, training, and resources to enhance service delivery.
‎
‎Earlier in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu, urged the commissioner to prioritise the training of education officers and facilitate access to digital technologies that would improve efficiency and productivity.
‎
‎Also speaking, the Head of the Accounts Department, Mrs. Philomena Okoye, commended Dr. Ogugua’s inclusive and consultative leadership approach and assured him of the ministry staff’s support in advancing the education policies and vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
