The Executive chairman of orumba South local government area, Hon Shedreck Azubuike alongside distinguished members of his cabinet, community leaders, stakeholders in orumba South on September 9, officially flagged off the reconstruction of the 320-metre failed portion of the umunze -umunneochi road popularly known as “Bank Road” by ndi umunze.
“Having carefully examined the underlying causes of the repeated failure of this portion of the road, my team and I resolved to address the problem from it’s root rather than continue with temporary repairs that only provide short term relief”, Hon Azubuike said.
The mayor said that bank road is one of the busiest and most economically important sectors of umunze.
“The area hosts at least three commercial banks and serves as a major route for motorists and heavy duty vehicles transporting stones, gravel and other solid minerals from owerre-Ezukala, Ogbunka and neighbouring communities”, he said.
He further said that over the years the deplorable condition of the stretch had caused significant, inconvenience and serious risks to motorists, pedestrians and other road users and that the intervention was not only about improving safety but also supporting the commerce and strengthening economic activities in umunze.
He later announced that the reconstruction of the project will be completed within 60 days.
