Residents of Omagba Community in Anambra State on July 4, joined the statewide environmental sanitation exercise declared by Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to promote a cleaner environment and ensure the desilting of drainage channels.

Speaking during the exercise, a former Chairman of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Barr. Austin Elendu, commended the initiative, saying it would enhance environmental sanitation, reduce flooding through proper drainage maintenance, and encourage residents to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean.

The Vice President-General of Omagba Phase 2 Community and Chief Security Officer, Hon. Chinwoke Michel Okparaugo, described the exercise as a unifying initiative that strengthened community participation.

He said the exercise led to the community’s first collective decision to install streetlights, adding that he had pledged to donate one streetlight while other landlords also committed to providing one each through their respective compounds.

Also speaking, an Anglican priest resident in the community, Rev. Onyedimma Chinemere Samuel, expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of residents, describing it as a reflection of the community’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and sustainable development.

Residents actively cleared drainage channels, evacuated refuse, and cleaned their surroundings in support of the state government’s drive for a cleaner, healthier, and flood free environment.
