Residents of Okpoko Ward 6 in Ogbaru I Constituency have expressed excitement and relief following the comprehensive fumigation exercise carried out across the ward on Wednesday, May 13.
Speaking with an Information Officer, one of the residents, Mr. Anayo Okwuoha, said the exercise sponsored by a philanthropist, Hon. Stephen Nnaemezie, targeted gutters, refuse dumps, stagnant water channels, and residential compounds in order to create a healthier and more conducive environment across the ward.

Mr. Okwuoha noted that the fumigation exercise had earlier been conducted in other five wards of the constituency, with Ward 6 serving as the grand finale of the exercise.
Also speaking, Mr. Elijah Nedi, described the intervention as timely, especially as the rainy season sets in, while commending Hon. Stephen Nnaemezie for the thoughtful gesture.
According to him, the fumigation exercise would help curb the spread of mosquitoes, rodents, and other disease vectors commonly associated with the rainy season..
In their separate remarks, Miss Ogechukwu Okafor and Mr. Echezona Iloba expressed gratitude over the scale and effectiveness of the exercise.
According to them, every major street and alley in the ward was covered.
“We have not seen this kind of fumigation in years. The mosquitoes have reduced drastically, and our children can now sleep well,” they said.
Others who spoke to our officer urged all the residents of the area to ensure proper drainage clearing to complement the fumigation exercise and achieve a lasting environmental sanitation.
The residents also prayed for God’s continued blessings and elevation upon Hon. Stephen Nnaemezie for his service to humanity, while appealing for the exercise to be sustained periodically.
