The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has called for increased understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of persons living with vitiligo, urging society to embrace diversity and eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with the skin condition.
Dr. Soludo made the appeal in a message shared on her official Facebook page on June 25 to mark World Vitiligo Day, an annual global observance dedicated to raising awareness about the condition.

She emphasized that every individual deserves dignity, respect, and equal opportunities regardless of physical appearance, stressing that every skin tells a unique story. According to her, the observance serves as an opportunity to celebrate human diversity while promoting empathy, kindness, and compassion toward people affected by vitiligo.
In her message, Dr. Soludo stated that World Vitiligo Day is a reminder of the need to appreciate the beauty of diversity and stand against all forms of prejudice and discrimination. She noted that every person deserves acceptance and the opportunity to thrive irrespective of their skin condition.

The governor’s wife further highlighted the importance of fostering a more inclusive society, adding that there is beauty and pride in every skin and that differences should be embraced rather than stigmatized.
She called on individuals, communities, and institutions to create supportive environments where people living with vitiligo can live confidently, realize their full potential, and contribute meaningfully to society without fear of exclusion.

World Vitiligo Day is observed annually to increase public awareness, correct misconceptions surrounding the condition, provide support for affected individuals, and encourage research aimed at improving treatment options.
