The Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, has launched the first edition of the Nnewi North Inter-School Quiz and Debate Competition to promote academic excellence and critical thinking among students.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the Council Secretariat on 20 May 2026, the Mayor, represented by his Deputy, Hon. Ijeoma Okoli, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building a strong educational foundation for the next generation.
He noted that beyond infrastructure, human capital development remains central to his vision for Nnewi North. “If we are to build the Nnewi of our dreams, we must invest in the minds that will lead tomorrow. This competition is designed to sharpen intellect, build confidence, and revive the reading culture among our students,” he said.
The competition will feature selected secondary schools from the 10 wards of Nnewi North LGA, with focus areas including current affairs, science, mathematics, the history of Nnewi, and public speaking.
Hon. Anazodo commended teachers and school administrators for their role in shaping future leaders and assured them of continued government support for education under Prof. Charles Soludo. He also urged students to view the platform as an opportunity to discover and showcase their talents.
The event was attended by education stakeholders, community leaders, school proprietors, members of the National Youth Service Corps, and student representatives.
