The Anambra State Government has dismissed recent reports on social media and in some media outlets that Governor Chukwuma Soludo signed a new burial law banning cows and goats at condolence visits.
In a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor described the reports as false, unfounded, and intentionally misleading. Dr. Mefor clarified that the current administration has not enacted any new burial legislation. He stated that the only subsisting burial law in the state remains the Anambra Burial Law of 2019, which was assented to by former Governor Willie Obiano.

He said the alleged ban does not appear anywhere in the 2019 law and accused those spreading the claim of fabricating information to mislead the public and provoke unnecessary outrage. He also criticized some established media organisations for publishing the unverified story, warning that failure to verify facts undermines public trust and fuels fake news.
The commissioner urged residents to disregard the false reports and to rely on official Anambra State Government channels for accurate information on government policy.
