The Traditional Ruler of Nawfia, Igwe Daniel Obelle Ezudo,has hosted the Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, alongside members of the Afor Market Reconstruction Committee and the Nawfia Youth Wing, to discuss plans for the reconstruction and modernization of Afor Nawfia Market.
The meeting, held at the royal palace in Nawfia, brought together community leaders, youth representatives, traders, and other stakeholders. Participants described the project as a significant step toward boosting economic growth and development in the area.

Igwe Ezudo commended the local government, the reconstruction committee, and the youth wing for their dedication to Nawfia’s development. He emphasized the need for unity and collaboration among stakeholders, noting that the project would strengthen economic activities and improve the community’s image. “Our people deserve a modern market that can compete with others across the state. This project is for the future of our youths, traders, and the entire Nawfia community,” the monarch stated.
Speaking at the gathering, Mayor Ononiba reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance commerce and attract investment. He stated that the reconstruction would provide a safer and more organized trading environment while creating employment opportunities for youths and women. “Afor Nawfia Market has the potential to become one of the leading commercial centers in Anambra State if properly reconstructed and managed”.
Chairman of the Afor Market Reconstruction Committee, Mr. Ugochukwu Udeh, disclosed that plans were underway to redesign the market with modern structures, improved drainage, security posts, and better trading spaces. He added that the committee would work closely with the local government and community leaders to ensure transparency and timely execution.
The President General of Nawfia, Chief Daniel Okoye, noted that the reconstructed market would be divided into sections to make trading more efficient and attractive to investors.
Youth representatives at the meeting welcomed the initiative, describing the current state of the market as inadequate for modern business operations. The meeting concluded with prayers for peace, progress, and the successful execution of the reconstruction project.
