The Anambra State Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, has formally received its newly appointed Commissioner, Prof. Charles Ofoegbu, during a meeting with the ministry’s management and staff. The meeting, attended by the Permanent Secretary and directors of the ministry, included the formal introduction of staff to the new commissioner.
In his address, Prof. Ofoegbu expressed concern over the shortage of professionals within the ministry. He noted that as a highly specialized ministry, there was an urgent need for experts in fields such as Geology, Mining, Petroleum Science, and other related disciplines.

He assured staff of his commitment to repositioning the ministry for improved efficiency and sustainable growth. The commissioner also stated that employees whose academic qualifications did not align with their current roles would be redeployed to departments matching their areas of specialization.
Prof. Ofoegbu urged staff to uphold dedication and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, stressing that meaningful progress could only be achieved through diligence and discipline. He further cautioned against lateness to work and emphasized the importance of punctuality.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ojeyinka Bayo, congratulated the commissioner on his appointment and assured him of the ministry’s full support and cooperation in achieving its mandate.
Staff members expressed optimism about the appointment, describing Prof. Ofoegbu as an experienced leader capable of revitalizing the ministry.
