The Traditional Ruler of Nawfia Community in Anambra State, His Royal Majesty Igwe Daniel Ogochukwu Obelle, alongside his wife, Akaeze, and members of the Nawfia Progressive Union (NPU), on August 17 welcomed a delegation from the Nigeria for Women Programme, Scale-Up Project (NFWP-SU) to the community.
The visit formed part of the NFWP-SU grassroots mobilisation and empowerment activities aimed at engaging women in Nawfia and encouraging their participation in sustainable economic empowerment initiatives.
The programme, supported by the World Bank, seeks to mobilise women at the grassroots and facilitate the formation of permanent Women Affinity Groups (WAGs). The groups are designed to strengthen women’s access to economic opportunities, collective support, skills development and improved livelihoods.

Speaking during the reception at the palace, Igwe Ezudo and his wife expressed appreciation to the NFWP-SU delegation for choosing Nawfia as part of its community engagement activities.
They also welcomed the initiative, describing it as an opportunity to promote the social and economic advancement of women in the community.
The participation of NPU members further demonstrated the community’s support for initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and economic well-being of women.
The NFWP-SU representatives explained that the establishment of sustainable Women Affinity Groups would provide a platform for women to work collectively, access economic opportunities, develop relevant skills and build stronger support networks within their communities.
The President-General of Nawfia, Chief Daniel Okoye, pledged the community’s support for the initiative and encouraged women in Nawfia to take full advantage of the opportunities provided through the programme.
The visit was seen as an important step towards strengthening grassroots participation in economic development and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for women in Nawfia.
